Hello Toronto Reds!
For those of you that don’t know me I’m Peter Etherington, author of a couple of LFC books (I’m sure Mr. Cashin will tell you more about them) "One boy and his Kop" and "MY YOUTH, MY KOP". For those of you who do know me I’m Evo - fat boy and LFC fanatic.
Our pre-season form has been patchy to say the least but using upwards of 18 players per game doesn’t really give one a great perspective as to what lies ahead in the coming season.
Harry Kewell looks good as long as the ball is on his left foot but far too often, either through design or playing to the Manager’s instructions, we’ve seen him aimlessly patrolling the right-wing in a manner not seen since the days of Mark Walters. Harry is class though and I’m sure will be a shining star for us this season.
Another plus point has been the vastly improved form of Emile and Vlad. I’m telling you if we can get these two playing this season as we all know they can then it will be like having two new players. Sadly Vlad hasn’t delivered, with anything like regularity over the four years he’s been at LFC, the form he displays for his country. Emile’s form in his first two years with us was at least okay but he was murder to watch last season. This pre-season though he has looked sharper, fitter and less inclined to fall over at the touch of a stud.
Pre-season has also confirmed what all LFC fans knew - we have the two best goalkeepers in the Premiership. We really are blessed in that department and hats must be taken off to Le Boss for signing the two keepers together despite many raised eyebrows at the time. Quite how that situation is going to pan out over the coming season nobody is sure, Kirkland is far too good to be kicking his heels on the bench all season, but one thing is certain - we won’t be let down between the sticks.
Well that’s enough of my inane ramblings for now; look forward (sic) to more during the coming season. I know you have many people working very hard behind the scenes to make your club the success it is so may I wish all Canadian Reds, especially the Toronto branch, much joy with all your ventures this season. I look forward to meeting any of you that might make the trip to the Holy Land this season. You never know - I might just pop over to Toronto myself some day!
Good luck and remember..
LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB ARE THE WAY FORWARD!
Evo.
