Voronin out on loan

Hertha Berlin have signed Liverpool forward Andriy Voronin on a one-year loan deal.

The Ukraine international joined the Reds on a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen a year ago but has failed to win a regular place in the first team.

In his time at Anfield, the 29-year-old has scored six goals in his 27 appearances for the club.

Liverpool 2-2 Tottenham

Fernando Torres' injury-time header rescued a draw for Liverpool. Liverpool went ahead after Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson spilt Steven Gerrard's free-kick and Andriy Voronin pounced to snaffle the rebound.

But Robbie Keane's goals at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second changed the game's course.

On both occasions Dimitar Berbatov's headers unsettled Liverpool and Keane's eye for goal proved deadly, but Torres' downward header rescued the home side.

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has been ruled out of Holland's Euro 2008 qualifying double-header against Romania and Slovenia because of an injury picked up during the match.

Gerrard concerns; Draw against Birmingham

Liverpool drew against Birmingham on Saturday, starting Voronin and Kyut.

Said Rafa:"The game was very frustrating, we tried to play wide, we tried to get the ball into the box and we did everything we could to break them down.

"In the end we ran out of ideas. The game was too narrow, it was too congested in the box and there was no space."

Rafa believes Steven Gerrard's recent England outings have taken a toll on the midfielder.

Gerrard was doubtful for England with a broken toe but played in both Euro 2008 qualifying wins over Israel and Russia.

"It could be that playing twice for England has had an impact," Benitez told the Liverpool Echo.

Sunderland 0-2 Liverpool

Mohamed Sissoko and Andriy Voronin scored their first Premier League goals as Liverpool saw off Sunderland.

Rafael Benitez had railed against what he perceived to be a catalogue of injustices against his side this week but his mood will have lifted after Liverpool's solid display.

Toulouse 0 - 1 Liverpool

Liverpool beat Toulouse in the first leg of their Champions League third-round qualifier with a patient and professional performance.

Andriy Voronin chested down a ball, turned and rifled in a rising 25-yard shot to put the Reds ahead at the end of a low-key first half.

The closest Toulouse came to a goal was a glancing Johan Elmander near-post shot which was saved by Pepe Reina.

Werder Bremen match shows compeitive spirit

Rafa handed Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel and Yossi Benayoun their debuts in yesterday's 3-2 friendly win over Werder Bremen, but it was Andrei Voronin who stole the show.

The Ukrainian striker netted his first goal for the club, after signing on a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen, after just four minutes and he helped himself to another in the second half.

Club record signing Fernando Torres emerged as a second-half substitute as Rafael Benitez’s side continued their pre-season preparations.
