Blatter to challenge EU on Foriegn Players

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has told the BBC he is ready to challenge the European Union to get a quota on foreign players within European teams.

Blatter made his comments in response to an NOP poll of football fans for BBC1's Football Focus.

He wants clubs to be limited to five foreigners in their starting XI to allow homegrown talent to flourish.

Reds reach Asia Trophy final

Liverpool set up an Asia Trophy final meeting with Portsmouth after a comfortable 3-1 win over South China.

Portsmouth had already secured their place in the pre-season tournament's showpiece event with a 1-0 win over Fulham and The Reds made sure it will be an all-English affair with their victory.

Rafa was unable to select Steven Gerrard, who was missing with a groin injury, and new signings Ryan Babel and Fernando Torres, who had not been given international clearance to play, but his side were always in control.

The Reds did not hesitate in demonstrating their comfort and they were soon in front courtesy of a trademark Riise thunderbolt.

Liverpool 2 - Auxerre 0

Liverpool maintained their 100 per cent pre-season record as they secured a 2-0 win over Auxerre.

The Reds' victory is unlikely to live long in the memory, but it made it four wins out of four as they build up to the start of their Premier League campaign away at Aston Villa on August 11th.

Goals either side of the break from Steven Gerrard and Daniel Agger earned Liverpool the victory in the final match of their pre-season tour of Switzerland.
