Liverpool Derby on Sunday

The 178th Merseyside league derby is also a head-to-head clash for fourth place in the Premier League and the final Champions League qualifying spot. Liverpool currently hold fourth, Everton are fifth two points behind, and both have seven to play.

Striker Fernando Torres is fit to face Everton after coming through Spain's friendly in midweek with no problems but Javier Mascherano is suspended.

Defender Steve Finnan is close to a return after a groin problem while Yossi Benayoun and John Arne Riise are pushing for a place in the side.

Andrew Johnson (groin) is Everton's main doubt for the Merseyside derby.

Steven Pienaar's fitness will be assessed after illness but Victor Anichebe should be be fit to play.

Gerrard wary of West Ham

Steven Gerrard has warned his team-mates that West Ham will be keen to ease the pain of their 4-0 defeat to Chelsea when they visit Anfield on Wednesday.

The Hammers crashed to a comprehensive defeat to London rivals Chelsea at Upton Park at the weekend and Gerrard is wary of a backlash.

Liverpool go into the game knowing that three points would see them overhaul Everton on goal difference in the battle for fourth spot in the Premier League.

Derby win sees many cards (but not enough?)

Saturday's Derby Match win was as passionate and controversial as ever.

Everton were then furious with referee Mark Clattenburg, who ignored strong claims for a spot-kick in the dying seconds when Jamie Carragher clearly dragged down Joleon Lescott. The Professional Game Match Board has confirmed that Clattenburg will not be
refereeing a match
this coming weekend.

Dirk Kuyt admitted he could have been sent off for his rash challenge on Phil Neville in Saturday's Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The Dutchman was only booked for an aerial two-footed lunge and said: "Maybe I was a bit lucky.

"I was trying to make a tackle, I did not want to touch him, and I didn't."

Dirk Kuyt's injury-time penalty gave Liverpool a crucial Merseyside derby win against nine-man Everton.

Z Cars Memorial Today

Liverpool Football Club have agreed to play 'Johnny Todd' - a tune beloved of 11-year-old Evertonian Rhys Jones - before their Champions League qualifier against Toulouse on Tuesday night.

They made the decision after being inundated with requests from Liverpool fans who wanted to show solidarity with the family of the murdered boy.
