Mascherano signs 4 year deal

Javier Mascherano has signed a four-year contract with Liverpool after moving to Anfield on loan from West Ham just over a year ago.

The Argentine midfielder was able to sign for Liverpool outside the transfer window because he does not belong to another club.

"I am very, very happy and now I can concentrate just on playing football.

"I said all along that I wanted to stay at Liverpool and now that I have signed I can say this is the best and the biggest moment in my career so far.

"From the first day I arrived at Liverpool the feeling was good and I knew this was where I wanted to play my football.

"It's good news for me and my family that everything is sorted and I know where my future is going to be. I just want to do my best for the fans and the people of the club.

"I am at a top side and I know I can win titles here. That's the big thing for me. I want to be at a club where we can win trophies and have success."

Mascherano deal imminent

Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano is on the verge of finalising a permanent deal with Liverpool.

The 23-year-old, whose contract is owned by the Media Sports Investments consortium, moved to Anfield on loan from West Ham just over a year ago.

Mascherano can sign for Liverpool outside the transfer window because he does not belong to another club.

'Maybe this week or next week we will be able to say everything's finished'.

Mascherano expected to stay

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano says he expects to complete a permanent move to the Anfield club this week.

The Argentine is registered as a Reds player on a long-term loan from Media Sports Investments (MSI), the consortium that 'owns' the player.

The 23-year-old said: "I have a lot of confidence that, after the next week, I can say 'everything is right and I am staying here in Liverpool'.

Parry: No transfer ban for Benitez

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has dismissed claims boss Rafael Benitez has been told he cannot do any transfer deals in January.

It was reported Liverpool's American co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks had placed Benitez under a transfer embargo on moves in and out of Anfield.

But Parry told BBC Sport: "I can say that this is absolute rubbish."

Liverpool, however, are likely to wait until the summer to complete a proposed £17m move for Javier Mascherano.

Mascherano ready to Shine

Rafael Benitez believes that he can give Javier Mascherano a platform to prove to a doubting English public that he is a great player.

Liverpool finally received Premier League permission to complete the deal to sign the Argentinian while they were in Barcelona this week.

He was an unused substitute in the Nou Camp as Liverpool produced one of the best European results in their history in beating Barca 2-1 in the Champions League.

And there is every chance that the midfielder will be involved in some capacity against Sheffield United at Anfield on Saturday.
