Wembley Costs Spiral

The cost of building the new Wembley stadium could spiral beyond the £1 billion barrier.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the situation has become so desperate that the stadium operators, Wembley National Stadium, are considering replacing Australian builders, Multiplex, with another contractor in order to get the stadium completed.

Despite the extraordinary cost, a completion date has still not yet been set, six months after the stadium was originally due to be reopened.

On Monday, Multiplex infuriated WNS by announcing that the stadium would not be ready until June 2007.
Relations have deteriorated to the extent that Multiplex have reportedly banned all non-essential WNS personnel, including FA chief executive Brian Barwick, from entering the stadium.
