Liverpool are ready to offload a host of squad players to raise funds for the signing of Lucas Neill before the transfer window closes tonight.

Pool's offer of £2m for the right-back was rejected by Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday with the Ewood Park outfit demanding around £4m despite the Aussie being in the final year of his contract.

In an attempt to clear the path for Neill's signing, Pool sold Neil Mellor to Preston North End last night, while Florent Sinama Pongolle is bound for Recreativo Huelva. Among those also heading for the exit on a frantic day at Anfield could be Jan Kromkamp, Salif Diao and Stephen Warnock.

Intriguingly, Harry Kewell has also been added to the list of possible departures following reports that Tottenham have expressed an interest in the winger.
