Reds lose to Grasshoppers

Liverpool conceded twice in 13 first-half minutes as they suffered a pre-season friendly defeat to Swiss side Grasshopper in Zurich.

Vero Salatic opened the scoring with a header, before new signing Gabriel Paletta made a mess of a back-pass to let David Blumer steal in to score.

Substitute Steven Gerrard volleyed just wide and later missed from 10 yards, while Peter Crouch had a shot saved. Mark Gonzalez and Craig Bellamy went close in the first half for the Reds.

Liverpool went into the game without Fabio Aurelio, Robbie Fowler, Luis Garcia and Steve Finnan - all of whom are carrying injuries.
