A great goal from new boy Daniel Agger as well as veterans Gerrard and Luis Garcia working to set up Peter Crouch allowed a trailing Liverpool to enter the second half with some confidence and hold on for the win. Pennat and Kuyt were exciting players to watch - Kuyt having come on in the second half for Crouch and getting two chances on goal within his first minute in the pitch.

The game marked the first time the two clubs had met since Liverpool's thrilling FA Cup as well as being the day the Kop celebrated its 100th birthday.
